Dojo Instructor Trained is required to coach at the Alberta Winter Games.
Judo Alberta will be holding an NCCP Dojo Instructor course on Oct 4-5, 2025, in Edmonton.
The “Instructor” course provides the participant with knowledge to teach the technical, physical, mental, social and other aspects of judo. The course prepares the participant to be a club instructor and be responsible for providing judoka with the basic physical literacy skills with emphasis on children under the age of 14, judo skills as described in the Judo Canada syllabus, and to introduce young judoka to competition.
The Backcheck is required only if the check done for the DA was done more than 3 years earlier.
Successful online completion of a “Respect in Sport for the activity leader” e-learning module available at judo-canada-al.respectgroupinc.com for all candidates who did not complete this module in the past.

All candidates for Competitive and Technical stream must enter their application into the online system https://judocanada.org/grading/ no later than October 18, 2025. Refer to the Judo Alberta website https://judoalberta.com/index.php/grading-kata/ for black belt grading information and the 2025 National Grading Syllabus https://judocanada.org/grading-2/.
Candidates should obtain their head instructor’s approval before making the application. Both are responsible for accurate and verified information. Do not claim for ineligible tournaments or partial years.
Shodan candidates must ensure their ikkyu (brown belt) registration date agrees with Judo Alberta registrar’s records. Contact the Registrar if any questions. All Shodan candidates, including Competitive Stream, must do a formal exam.
All candidates must have a Judo Canada passport and bring it to the grading. If needed, order at https://judocanada.org/judo-canada-passport/
Candidates must wear white judogi only. No electronic recording during any Yudansha grading session. Sessions are open to the public.
The Provincial Kata Committee will offer instructions in Ju no Kata to anyone interested. In-person sessions will also be broadcast and recorded on Google Meet (please mute): Join online here
Tuesdays on October 7, 21, 28 from 6:00pm – 7:25pm MST. Each session builds on the previous one.
